Fitting Cap on Mast Bearing
The photo above shows a simple fitting cap. If you look close you will notice the end of the cap is domed and there is a hole in it. This cap was installed on the mast bearing oil jet of an overhauled mast assembly. The mast was being installed in a transmission when a mechanic noticed something in the end of the jet before the line was connected. For whatever reason the damaged cap was noticed when it was removed. If it hadn’t been noticed it could / would cost at minimum a mast and transmission, possibly and aircraft and lives. DETAILS.
